Living in a private neighborhood offers many perks. One of the most notable is the long list of amenities to which residents have access. The specifics regarding this list depend, of course, on the individual community at hand; however, it is safe to say that the amenities that gated communities, as a whole, provide to their residents are impressive.

What Is an Amenity?

The word “amenity” is thrown around a great deal in the real estate and advertising spheres. For this reason, it is extremely important to establish a clear understanding of what an amenity is—and why it is something that homeowners would want. According to Merriam-Webster, an amenity is: “something that conduces to comfort, convenience, or enjoyment.” This means that amenities are resources that improve the quality of life for residents living in a gated community.

What Amenities Are Available?

The benefits of living in a gated community are numerous, and they appeal to family members of all ages. For kids, playgrounds and swimming pools are most popular. Additionally, children often enjoy the ability to participate in community events, such as seasonal festivities that host face painting, games, and giveaways.

Teenagers can also benefit from the amenities of a private community. Frequently, kids who are in middle and high school are looking to stay active and develop their athletic skills. Through basketball courts, volleyball courts, the pool, racquetball courts, and other resources they are able to stay fit and even prepare for competitions.

Adults, too, seem to enjoy the athletic amenities that such neighborhoods have to offer. In fact, people of all ages can benefit from the use of athletic equipment. In many cases, families make it a point to enjoy these amenities together, allowing them to stay active while sharing quality time with their loved ones.

Some communities offer intangible amenities, which are also called services. For instance, a club house might offer dry clean pickup or other concierge services. Frequently, classes and events are held at the club house for all residents to enjoy. From group fitness courses to book clubs to cocktail parties, these events allow residents to socialize and build their friendships.

Investing In a Quality Lifestyle

While it is no secret that living in a gated community is often more expensive than investing in a home in a less luxurious neighborhood, it is also no secret that living a great lifestyle is worth the homeowner’s association fees. All of the residents in a private neighborhood contribute, through such fees, to the maintenance and care of the many amenities that their community provides. As such, they share ownership, in a sense, of the many athletic and other perks offered by their residential area. This is important to remember, as it is essential to respect public property and recognize that the amenities a neighborhood offers are meant for the enjoyment of all of its residents.

Finding a community that all members of a family will love is not always easy. This is particularly true for multi-generational families who are looking to please individuals from a wide range of ages. But the perks of living in a private community appeal to kids, teenagers, and adults alike. The trick is to pinpoint the neighborhood that offers the amenities that are most in line with the interests of family members and, after that, pick the perfect property!
