Located just about a 45-minute drive from Porters Neck and slightly south of Wrightsville

bikes and take to the boardwalk, fish off of the fishing pier, or catch a fishing charter or scenic
boat tour. And after all of that activity, cap it off with a relaxing rest on the sandy shores while
enjoying the sound of the waves crashing.

for the whole family is the Pleasure Island Sea Turtle Project. There are many loggerhead sea
turtles that make Carolina Beach their nesting sites during the summer months. These turtles
are protected by the Endangered Species Act and the nests are monitored by volunteers during
the summer months. The project offers educational opportunities and Turtle Talks to educate
the public and get a glimpse into the nesting season for sea turtles. If you are lucky you might
even spot a sea turtle coming to shore to lay her eggs!
Carolina Beach has a vast history. You can visit Fort Fisher Island, the site of a major Civil War
battle from 1865. Here you can step back in time to the colonial period and see exhibits and
artifacts from this historic time period. The Federal Point History Center also offers a glimpse of
history that is not to be missed.
