Porters Neck is located just north of The University of North Carolina at Wilmington, a US News and World Report "top 10 public university in the Southeast," which offers extensive continuing education courses for nominal fees. Located in downtown Wilmington, Cape Fear Community College specializes in a wide range of technical courses in two and four year programs. Porters Neck Plantation residents are served by Blair Elementary School, Noble Middle School and E.A. Laney High School.
